Kaya Von Berg

Legal Clerk

Kaya is currently a senior at University of Southern California majoring in Linguistics with a minor in Forensics and Criminality. Concurrently, she is taking classes through UCLA Extension to earn a certificate in Paralegal Studies. Kaya is set to graduate from USC with honors in May of 2023 and earn her certificate in June of the same year.

During her time at USC, Kaya has consistently sought out roles as both a writer, researcher, and advocate. She spent the first two years of college as an Opinion Staff Writer, Assistant Editor, and Editorial Board Member at USC’s only student-run paper, the Daily Trojan. Her pieces critiqued social inequities on campus and pushed for much-needed change. Kaya spent a year monitoring upcoming developments as a Research and Policy Intern with Strategic Actions for a Just Economy (SAJE), a community-based organization geared towards tenants’ rights. She then transitioned to the role of Outreach Intern with Tristar Investigations, an LA-based private detective agency. Kaya’s research as a Linguistics major has focused on the intersection of language, law, and society; her recent Honors Thesis focused on how members of a hate-group such as 4chan use the language characteristics of marginalized communities to imitate their own victimhood.
